The quick answer

Give the Historic Peninsula at least one concentrated day, use another day for Beyoğlu/Karaköy, and leave time for a Bosphorus experience or the Asian side. The city is much easier to plan when you stop treating every landmark as an isolated destination.

Historic Peninsula

GoTürkiye describes the Historic Peninsula as the area associated with major Eastern Roman and Ottoman heritage. Key destinations listed by the official guide include Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapı Palace, Basilica Cistern, the Grand Bazaar, Spice Bazaar and Gülhane Park.

Group these places geographically and check opening days and ticket requirements before setting your schedule. The goal is a coherent walking day, not a race between landmarks.

Beyoğlu & Karaköy

The official GoTürkiye guide presents Beyoğlu through places including İstiklal Caddesi, Taksim Square, Galata Tower, Karaköy, Galataport, İstanbul Modern and the Pera Museum. This makes the district useful for a day that mixes architecture, contemporary culture, cafés and evening activity.

Bosphorus & Asian side

GoTürkiye’s current Istanbul destination guide includes the Asian Side, Kadıköy and Üsküdar among the city’s destination areas. A Bosphorus-focused plan can therefore be more than a boat ride: use the waterfront to connect different parts of the city and compare European and Asian-side neighbourhood experiences.

Food and local experiences

Keep at least one meal or market block flexible. Istanbul’s official tourism guide currently highlights street food, Turkish coffee, breakfast, meyhane culture, shopping and gastronomy as distinct experiences. These can become the connective tissue between sightseeing blocks.

GoTürkiye currently lists a wide range of Istanbul destinations, from the Historic Peninsula and Beyoğlu to Kadıköy, Üsküdar, Princes’ Islands and nature areas. Use that directory to extend the trip when you have more than three days.
